Seasonal landscape care and property services for homes in Point Pleasant, a year-round community on the Manasquan River in northern Ocean County.
About Point Pleasant
Point Pleasant is a borough in northern Ocean County with 18,941 residents as of the 2020 census. It is a separate town from its neighbor, Point Pleasant Beach. The borough describes itself as a year-round community, and the census numbers back that up: of its 8,485 housing units, close to 90 percent were occupied in 2020. Most lawns and gardens here are in use from early spring through late fall. The borough borders Bay Head and Point Pleasant Beach to the east, Brick Township to the west, and Mantoloking and Brielle.
A town surrounded by water
Roughly 16 percent of Point Pleasant's area is water. The Manasquan River forms its northern boundary and Beaver Dam Creek forms its southern one. The Point Pleasant Canal, opened in 1925 as the northernmost leg of the Intracoastal Waterway, runs through the middle of the borough. On the bay side, residential lagoons connect to Barnegat Bay.
That water is a big part of why people live here, and it also shapes the landscape. During Hurricane Sandy in 2012, much of the flooding in the borough came from tidal surge that pushed up Barnegat Bay and its tributaries, including the lagoons. Salt water that sits on lawns and planting beds can stress grass, shrubs and perennials, and Rutgers Cooperative Extension publishes guidance for homeowners on saltwater flooding in the garden for exactly that reason.
What waterfront yards need
Properties on the river, the canal and the lagoons tend to see more wind and moisture than yards further inland. Beds along bulkheads and patios collect debris after storms, and shrubs near the water benefit from regular pruning and attention through the season. Paver patios, walkways and outdoor living areas near the water also pick up mildew and grime faster, which is where power washing helps.
